Safely Operating in a Changing Antarctica
The COMNAP AGM 38 (2026) adopted the COMNAP Strategic plan 2026–2033 to guide the organisation over the next years to ensure COMNAP is well placed to give to its Members all they need to do their best and be safe in Antarctica.
To contribute to an enduring Antarctic future within the Antarctic Treaty System by fostering international cooperation, safety in operations, logistics and science support, championing environmental practices, and strengthening the capabilities of the COMNAP Member National Antarctic Programs.
Our strategic vision revolves around five core pillars:

COMNAP strives “to develop and promote best practice in managing the support of scientific research in Antarctica”.
We value Antarctica as a natural reserve devoted to peace and science.
We support the core message that a peaceful use of Antarctica matters to all of humanity.
COMNAP was founded to be, and remains, a practical, technical & non-political association. We highly value and recognise the expertise within Member National Antarctic Programs who have the greatest depth and breadth of Antarctic knowledge found, collectively, in no other community in the world.
COMNAP’s objectives can be found in its Constitution which notes that the fundamental purpose of COMNAP is to develop and promote best practice in managing the support of scientific research in Antarctica.
• Serving as a forum to develop practices that improve effectiveness of activities in an environmentally responsible manner;
• Facilitating and promoting international partnerships;
• Providing opportunities and systems for information exchange; and
• Providing the Antarctic Treaty System with objective, practical, technical & nonpolitical advice drawn from the National Antarctic Programs’ pool of expertise.
